Celebrating Windrush in Barking and Dagenham
This year marked the 70th anniversary of the arrival of HMS Windrush at Tilbury docks, having travelled all the way from the Caribbean. To celebrate, Barking and Dagenham Council organised a celebration at Barking Town Hall, featuring live music and speeches from the High Commissioner of Jamaica and Patrick Vernon OBE.
The event focused on the positive impact the Windrush generation has had on Britain, particularly the NHS. It also highlighted the influence that the Windrush generation has had on Barking and Dagenham, and how it has helped our community to become the thriving, multicultural hub it is today.
