Local students achieve record-breaking GCSE results | OBLive
In the first year of new grades for GCSE English, English literature and maths, almost a quarter of GCSE students (24%) in Barking and Dagenham have achieved the top grades of 7 to 9 in English – exceeding the national average of 17%.
Instead of awarding students G to A* marks, the new grading system gave pupils a result numbered from 1 to 9. Despite uncertainty over the impact of these changes, 63% of students got a grade between 4 to 9 in English and maths, which is an improvement on last year’s performance of 60%.
