Local people have the opportunity to get some bespoke bike advice at Barking Riverside this August, thanks to its new cycling hub.
Aptly-named Biking Riverside is a new community cycle hub located in The Rivergate Centre, providing a focal point for all bike-related activities.
The hub’s launch comes as Barking and Dagenham Council announces its investment in a new designated cycle way linking Barking Riverside to the town centre.
Leader of Barking and Dagenham Council, Councillor Darren Rodwell, said the hub and the cycle way were further proof of the on-going regeneration of Barking Riverside.
Cllr Rodwell said: “With the arrival of the Overground extension and the planned cycle route, it’s clear Barcelona on Thames has a beautiful horizon.â€
Barking Riverside London Project Director, Matt Carpen, said: “Green travel is a key aspect of our place making strategy here at Barking Riverside, and Biking Riverside is designed to get our residents and those across the borough cycling. There are plans for an extensive cycle network within the masterplan. This initiative will also contribute to our plans to make Barking Riverside London’s first Healthy New Town.â€
The hub will offer a complete range of cycling services, run by Dagenham-based Vandome Cycles and national charity Sustrans, including instructor courses, workshops, bike maintenance and social rides.
